About Me

Hi there, my name is Jon Cofer. I am the Director, Ballpark Productions for the Pittsburgh Pirates and have been in video production for my entire professional career.

I grew up in State College, Pennsylvania, and fell in love with video early in high school. I got my first job in the field as a member of the game day production staff for Penn State basketball games in 2002. I kept close ties with the Penn State Athletics video department, continuing to help out part-time through 2008. Over the years I did camera, replay, graphics, editing, and tape logging… basically anything I was asked to do.

Although I grew up 2 miles from and was accepted to Penn State University, I decided to move away from home as an exercise in starting over. I graduated from Clarion University of Pennsylvania in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Media Arts & Journalism. There I earned a 3.855 GPA, 3.905 in my major.

In 2008 I moved to Binghamton to work with the Binghamton Mets as a video production intern, and took over full-time as the director in 2009. There I shot video with Canon XL2 cameras, edited and created graphics with the Adobe CS5 suite, and  ran the gameday production staff/oversaw the promotions crew. Each year I was there I hired and trained a new batch of video interns – many of which are still working in production, something I am very proud of.

Starting in November of 2011 I worked as a Producer with the New Jersey Devils. There I directed Devils home games and collaborated with the rest of the production staff to create video content for the scoreboard, website and youtube. I was with the Devils until November of 2014 when I returned to my home state of Pennsylvania.

From November of 2014 until present day I’ve worked with the Pittsburgh Pirates. As the Director, Ballpark Productions I’m in charge of running, staffing and managing content for the brand new Video Board that was installed in 2023. I produce the in-stadium broadcast at Pirates home games, and plan and create video content as well as hire and manage a staff comprised of part-time and full-time employees.

In 2021, shortly after my son was born, I spent two years as the Lead Video Editor for Picture This Media. I edited all of their videos and interfaced directly with their clients for feedback and final delivery of projects.
